From the Nemaha United Methodist Church Bulletin January 1/27/2018:

Bio of our guest pastor January 27, 2018:
Rev. Kathy Wadsley, Deacon Retired
It is a joy to be with you on the 4th Sunday after the Epiphany. After 36 years serving as Director of Christian Education and Program, I retired July 1, 2016 to come home to be among family. Family who helped build this church, the church where I was baptized as an infant, attended Vacation Bible School, 4H, and many other events.

My family transferred to the Storm Lake Methodist Church where I received a Bible as third grader, was confirmed, sang in the chancel choir with my Dad and played the organ when I was in college. Unbeknown at that time, growing up in a large church helped prepare me for ministry as a Director of Christian Education. After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Buena Vista University, I taught public school music for eight years in Northwest Iowa. Then God called me to be a Christian Education Director at the First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls, followed by the First United Methodist Church in Ankeny. During that time I earned a Masters in Christian Education Degree from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary and was consecrated as Diaconal Minister by the Iowa Conference.

God called me to be the Director of Program at the First United Methodist Church in Easley, South Carolina where I was a member of the South Carolina Conference by Discipline. Then God called me to serve Faith United Methodist Church in Rockville, Maryland where I was ordained as a Deacon in Full Connection by the Baltimore-Washington Conference. Then God called me to serve the Hudson United Methodist Church in Hudson, Ohio and I transferred my membership to the East Ohio Conference.

Deacons are required to find their places to serve and ask the Bishop to be appointed to that ministry. My last appointment was to St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church in Bowie, Maryland. By Discipline retiring clergy are to find a charge conference church where they give an accounting of their ministry each year. Since I was moving to Storm Lake, I asked the District Superintendent and the Storm Lake United Methodist Church and they said they would be my charge conference church. In my first church I started creating Advent and Lenten calendars and have just finished converting them to electronic documents making them available in English and Spanish.

From Pastor Laurel (December 18, 2016 bulletin)
It was a long four weeks of being sick at home with adrenal fatigue, but I am finally on the mend and even able to start back (slowly) to work.  I want to say, “Thank you!” to everyone who encouraged me and helped me by praying for me, calling or texting me, sending cards, visiting me, running to the store and doing other errands,
cleaning my house, or providing meals for me.  I truly don’t know what I would have done without you all, and I thank God for each and every one of you.  You and your acts of kindness and love, are sterling examples of God’s outrageous love for me, and my life is so much richer because of you.  Thank you for being the heart, hands, and feet of Jesus.  I am proud to call you my friends and my brothers and sisters in the Lord.  May God richly bless you all.
With heartfelt love and appreciation,     Pastor Laurel

We ask you to receive Dan into his heavenly home where illness, pain, and anxiety are relieved and he is restored to wholeness. We celebrate his life and thank you for giving him to us for these years.
Wrap your loving arms around Dan’s family, John, and Jan, as they grieve their earthly loss. Let them be aware of your love made real by family and friends who support and care for them in this tender time.
We praise you, Lord, for the many gifts you have given us and give you all honor, glory, and praise. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

July 26, 2016: From our Friends at Early UMC:

Friends,
We are asked to raise Amy Kuehler’s sister, Barb Palmer, in our prayers as she has been placed on hospice.
Heavenly Father,
We come before you with prayers for your daughter, Barb, who is in hospice care. Be her strength, comfort, and inspiration. Let her know your presence as she is surrounded by family and friends who are on this journey with her. We know you are greater than our struggles and more powerful than death. Thank you for the blessings of Barb’s life and we ask for your great power to wash over her and lead her safely home.
In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

***We are in need of piano players at Park View Rehabilitation Center on Monday afternoons from 2:00-2:45 for our weekly sing along activity. This is an activity the residents truly enjoy!! We have been blessed with a very talented and dedicated piano player for the past MANY, MANY years and she is wishing to step away at this time—-which leaves us with a void.

If you know of anyone who might be interested in playing the piano for us on Mondays, please give Teresa Bruening a call at either (712)662-3818 or (712)297-0316. We have sheet music to play from, with overhead transparencies for the residents to use to sing.
